Primarily a service town for the outlying agricultural area, its location to the Warrumbungle Mountains and National Park make it an excellent base for exploring the area.

The town is proud of its strong community spirit and relish the natural beauty that the surrounding area provides. Like many small country towns, population decline due to local employment opportunities that cannot compete with other areas, means that local services also suffer as the population is not sufficient for them to be provided. But Gulargambone identified the problem and came up with a unique approach; if governments and business cannot provide them then the community will. This resulted in the first community owned Post office as well as a multi-purpose health services. Community also enable many other infrastructure upgrades in town as well.

Another unique attraction to Gulargambone is Cafe 2828 located in the old picture theatre that is also the Visitor Information Centre. What is unique about it is that is run by the community on a volunteer basis. A must visit.
